Glove-gate

So Ponting wants to a replay before he’ll accept Haddin is a cheat. He must be pissed that the issue of integrity has come up again, second year in a row. Well the replays have been available for hours now. Haddin himself is taking the high-stakes option of turning the attack onto Vettori.

Haddin said of the incident “This game is gone and we move onto the next one.” There are some however that think that Ronchi could be playing the next one. Well, there are five days before the next match; plenty of time to consider that issue. It bears recalling however, that the last time something similar occurred – Greg Dyer’s catch that wasn’t, of course – led to Healy getting his big chance. The subtle difference however is that NZ won this game, in spite of.

The more self-righteous and offended the denial, the more obvious the crime…

Glove-gate is a little generic for an act tantamount to a declaration of war (just kidding). We have Dyer the Liar, The Underarm Incident ™, but I’m struggling to think up something for this. Haddin’t, maybe?

And the bigger the damage to your reputation in the end. Best to either shut up or express some contrition.

The most damning thing though is Ponting’s claim that “Out on the field (Haddin) said he was certain the ball had flicked the top of the off stump.” You don’t defend yourself over a bowled wicket unless you know something is wrong.

You’re right. And I hate the lazy use of -gate for any old scandal. I can’t think of anything better though.

I’ve been pondering whether a parallel can be drawn between the magic ball that was taken by Haddin before and above the stumps while still managing to clip them and the magic bullet that Kennedy was shot with. “Haddin’s magic ball”?

Best term I’ve seen so far is “Hand of Dog”
