Sri Lanka schedule
Next up on the Black Caps’ schedule is a trip to Sri Lanka for 2 tests, 5 ODIs and 2 T20Is. I have added the schedule to my Schedule section. Check it out here.
There are 11 games in the tour. Incredibly, 8 of them are in Colombo. 2 of the other games are in Dambulla. The weirdest part being that the last five games are being played in the same stadium. Or is it weirder that the Colombo games are played at 4 different venues?
Apparently, NZ, SL and India will play a triangular ODI tournament, presumably after the ODIs and T20Is between NZ and SL. This hasn’t been scheduled yet however.

Ah, the old 2-5-2 tour; fast becoming a NZ speciality.
Ben, do you find the deafening silence on the probable Pakistani tour in Nov / Dec a bit of a worry?

I hadn’t put too much thought into that tour actually. I was hoping that something would be arranged, and that hope became an assumption that something would. You are right, the tour looks dead. Pakistan is playing the Boxing Day test in Aus, so you’d think they wouldn’t mind having a warm up series in NZ.

You’d have thought so, and the Good Doctor had hinted that it would be held here, rather than Dubai.
I’d been looking forward to an 8-test Home Season, and a trip to the Basin before Xmas.

NZ’s last tour of Sri Lanka was a really good one (results wise) – a drawn test series which included Fleming’s 274, and a win in that tri-series which featured Pakistan. But the gap between the sides has widened ever since. It’s quite incredible that aside from Bangladesh, NZ have not been invited to tour the subcontinent even once in the last six years. We have no idea how the batsmen will cope with top-class spin, or the bowlers with slowish tracks. Was this the fault of the respective boards, or the Future Tours Programme?

Suhas,
Future tours, the Pakistan situation, and NZ’s undying devotion to limited over cricket.
BTW, I’ve got an idea how we’ll go against top class spin…

The 2003 series was a great one wasn’t it. I must post about it.

If SL play like they did against Pakistan, the kiwis will certainly have a tough task.
