Poor showing
Black Caps go down to Sri Lanka by 200 runs, having owned nothing of this test beyond the first half hour. Bit of an embarrassing day to be a New Zealander, all things considered.

Are batting collapses, as part of sporting stereotypes, an offence in this professional era?

Nice. I can see “Should a … as part of …” becoming an enduring part of the kiwi vernacular.

Should a player, as part of some power axis gone mad, become a selector?

Lets not write off the Black Caps after one test look at the current Ashes Tests, the victories by both England and Australia were by large margins:
England beat Australia by 115 runs
Australia beat England by an innings and 80 runs
England beat Australia by 197 runs
So its one nil and they have to start again.

No, indeed not. The first test was a disappointment, not so much because we lost, but because it was a pretty meek showing. No one did anything spectacular – and the food poisoning could have had a lot to do with that. We really should be expecting a loss in Colombo as well, given the gap between the teams, but I’m hoping that someone will step up and impress us.
