Black Caps save the world

It is as if the world had righted itself on its axis. The Black Caps have made the semis of an ICC tournament. Global warming has been turned back. Kraft have revealed the iSnack was a hoax. (Though in a troubling sign of the coming apocalypse, Grant Elliot continues to prove to be a match winner.)

New Zealand destroy England, knock Sri Lanka out of the tournament and shame South Africa, all while imploding themselves.

Heard on Radio Sport (Mark Richardson?) this morning: “You can’t bag this New Zealand team because you’ll end up with egg on your face.”

Great win indeed, pushing us to that never-fail semifinal slot. To be fair, NZ had just the ideal surface for a packed pace attack to exploit, and the right opponents too (I can’t help but think of how Pakistan, for example, might have approached the same situation batting first – I suppose we’ll find out on Saturday).

The batting looks extremely patchy, though. I read in the Herald that Grant Elliott has ended up with a hand injury, which might mean yet another go for Gareth specialist-number-seven Hopkins. Any dibs on Aaron Redmond coming good in the Pakistan game.

A great win for the Black Caps. I always fancied them to make the final. However the Aussies were awsome against England in the Semi Final and I fear they will be to strong!

Even after losing the final this morning it would still be criminal to bag the Black Caps. With the teams most experienced players injured they played half the tournament with an A squad and still managed to rattle a few cages. Valiant effort today but we really did miss Vettori!
