Moles’ days numbered?
The report in the Dom Post this morning that the players don’t want Andy Moles as coach anymore is a megaton hit to Moles’ position, I would say. This isn’t just mutterings of dissatisfaction, as we’re used to under other coaches. By all accounts, this is mutiny.
Apparently, Moles has not been doing his job. That is, he hasn’t been coaching the team, with Vettori taking on that responsibility. Who knows what’s really been going on behind the scenes, but given what we see of Moles, that doesn’t strike me as unlikely. However, I think it speaks most about Moles’ shortcomings as a coach that such a mutiny could be instigated. There was strong dissatisfaction with Bracewell by several players, but it would have been unthinkable for the team to band together and complain; he was just too much in control.
NZC has issued a press release ‘confirming’ Moles as coach, whatever that means. Which is a fairly good indication that there is indeed a crisis. And there was precious little defence of Moles in the press release.
It’s not looking good for Moles. But what can he do? Surely the last thing he wants is to end his time in New Zealand the same way he did in Scotland?

While they’re at it, appoint Vettori as coach, CEO kiwi cricket, and any other job that’s going around. Now that’s he grown a beard, there’s nothing Vettori cannot do.

as an outsider i think his role as selector and coach is what making players feel uncomfortable as there might be the role clash here…
they can not go to moles ‘the coach’ with problems fearing moles ‘the selector’ will be noting it… and may me players are feeling let down by moles here…

Why isnt any Kiwi making calls for India’s Mr Wright as coach? Want us to burn a few effigies of the NZC to spur you into action?
Cheers,

I can tell you, there is massive enthusiasm for Wright as coach amongst NZ fans and general bemusement that it hasn’t come to pass.
It seems to be the case that Wright isn’t interested in taking on full-time coaching anymore. But we can only hope that he is prevailed upon if Moles is dumped.

You know, that could well be the case.
But I think the real problem is clear: the player’s didn’t think he was going a good enough job. He wasn’t bringing about any improvements and he wasn’t coming up with any plans.

He’s taken the all-rounders’ role to new heights.

I don’t think Andy Moles has done a bad job.
But the test side is looking stale and its time for a change!
