Loving all the hating

When you’ve tanked the bowlers around the park on your way to an unbeaten 20-20 century, getting the finger from one of those bowlers is the highest form of flattery. Tait is presenting to McCullum here in a frustrated acknowledgement that McCullum was fricken’ awesome the other night.

In contrast, despite what others might think, the Lancaster Park crowd was jeering Shane Watson because he is a dick, not because we respect his abilities with bat and ball. We openly hate him, we don’t secretly rate him.

Kiwis not loving Watto is so yesterday. Aussies not loving him is completely NOW.

Watto and the press have this insane idea that because he won the Alan Border medal that suddenly Australian fans love him.

So far, I still can’t find anyone who does. And most Aussies think that Nathan Bracken’s wife won the AB medal.

I can confirm that Aussies don’t like Shane Watson despite his recent success as ramshackle opener. Some people have innately punchable faces, and he’s one of them.

I had read somewhere (Cricinfo or Stuff.co.nz?) that Tait’s middle finger was directed at the crowd. But I like this version better.

There are few things more patronising than being told why you hate someone.
