Over Sri Lanka

Beating Sri Lanka should have booked us a place in the Super 8s. Yay. And no small achievement. A quick look at the records shows that Sri Lanka have been a real banana peel for us. Saturday’s win is our first over Sri Lanka in a grand tournament (World Cup, Champions’ Trophy or World T20) since 1992.

No such worries against Zimbabwe.

We did beat the Lankans in last eyar’s Champions Trophy. But apart from that, yeah, the Lankans have usually been difficult opponents for us.

Overcoming Zimbabwe might not be that easy however. We haven’t played them in a long while and they seemed to have raised their game a notch since. Should be a very interesting contest today, especially since some of the batters (McCullum, Taylor) don’t look as if they’ve adjusted to the slower wickets.

Ah, you’re right, of course, we beat them just last year.

I guess that is the sort of mistake you make when you post half asleep. However, even at the best of times always seem to remember the losses more sharply than the wins. The win against Sri Lanka last year was part of our march to the final, but whenever I think about SL, I remember the semi-final loss in the last World Cup.
